Chris Moyles Karaoke at Doncaster College, 8th February

Two years ago radio was in decline, Zoe Ball and Sara Cox took over the airwaves zapping every excitement out of the medium and it was questionable if big mouthed DJs would every rule the airwaves again. Slowly since then figures have climbed, this is not down to Chris Moyles but he sure has helped bring Radio 1 back to society.

Yet mention Chris Moyles to most people and they'll mutter 'twat' followed by his annoying traits, and its true, but its also his appeal, hence the 7 million listeners. Something Chris Moyles has brought back to radio however is the fame for its presenters. Most people are at Doncaster College tonight for a glimpse of the main man, followed by his team regularly heard on the airwaves. As Moyles bursts onto the stage singing Queen's 'Don't Stop Me Now' a flux of camera phones flash along with shouts of 'I Love You!' 'No I Love you more!' as Chris introduces the schedule for the evening.

Now for those of you who don't know, Chris Moyle's Karaoke is similar to the Radio 1 Roadshow's of the 70s. Travelling around, audience members are asked to hand in slips of songs they would like to sing who are then subjected to praise and torment from the DJ in return for Kaiser Chiefs tickets.

The first girl to take to the stage is unfortunately a stereotypical Doncaster girl, singing above all things Christina Aguilera's 'Dirrty'. With an average voice and little entertainment value most of the acts follow suit until the arrogant Geoff provides everything you want from a karaoke. Embarrassment, comedy and a shatterproof personality, before hes even finished the first verse hes booed off the stage but the real joke of the evening is just around the corner.
As two men barely make 30 seconds of Chesney Hawkes 'The One and Only' they heckle Moyles a "fat lad" for not giving them gig tickets as Chris responds with "I might be fat but its only because your mum gives me a biscuit every time I fuck her" the crowd are stunned in a mix of laughter and awe.

And its this live reflex from Moyles which makes him the most entertaining person onstage, providing the audience with a 'how far will he go?' objective which does create slight tension in the room. Yet a little like a stand up comedian he knows how to handle hecklers, and most importantly bring an audience to their feet.
