Slow Club at the Plug, Sheffield, 16th February

With the temperature in Sheffield tonight remaining at a fixed -3°c, it’s enough to keep any music fan firmly indoors. But as the audience packs into The Plug, they’re here knowing Slow Club will brighten their day. The Sheffield group have always found themselves supporting their favourite acts, so this first time headline show is one of risk and endurance as they try to prove to a hometown audience they can bypass the 20 minute mark.

Taking to the stage without amplification their wholesome melodies and strong rhythms instantly light up the room. From ‘Me and You’ the audience follow the group, caught in the moment of their breezy ballads. Percussionist Rebecca continues to hit her variety of knock off instruments with endless glee and although the duo’s songs become increasingly similar they manage to keep you interested throughout. Finally as ‘Slow Club Summer Shakedown’ makes an appearance, you can forget about the temperature outside- Slow Club have just brought the summer into Sheffield.
