The Fall at the Corporation, Sheffield, March 6

It's hard to say anything about The Fall these days which is going to shed any light upon the band. Shambolic immediately springs to mind as Mark E Smith ambles on stage- but no one here is expecting a perfect performance. However the band are a strong force, as Smith turns his hand to bumbling around the stage. It is the band that provides the rhythm and the essence of the group, despite what the rest of the crowd choose to believe.
Smith's lyrics are inaudible as he pushes the microphone so close to his mouth all you can hear is distortion- but there's something about his performance that keeps your eyes fixated on the stage. At times he's a comedy character almost creeping around the stage, hoping no one will notice his ability to ruin everything in his path. Yet occasionally short bursts of power suddenly cause him to kick a drummer or instruct a guitar solo, making the band play that bit harder. It's obvious this is Smith's band and as he, in turn takes over every instrument on stage, it's clear he doesn't always know best.
