Hadouken at Sheffield Academy, May 7

Towards the back of the Sheffield Academy there's a man with a bewildered expression on his face. Clearly wearing earplugs he's one of the many parents tonight trying to get to grips with Hadouken. Dressed in bright clothing, with an audience hand picked from a Skins advert they're not the most friendly group for the over 30s- yet they also make unlikely candidates for teen worship.

Bounding onto the stage with a hard electro rhythm, the room is transformed into a family themed rave. As a shower of glo-sticks hit the stage, the group appear less energetic than their audience with lead singer James hiding behind a microphone stand until, fourth song in, he throws himself into the crowd. These initial actions are what made Hadouken such a strong force, yet tonight it looks like a lead singer desperate for acceptance. As he politely asks the audience to buy their latest album for the third time, it's like the band themselves feel their moment is slipping away.

But as you take a quick scan of the crowd the young teens response is overwhelming. During 'That Boy That Girl' one girl is crying with excitement as a group of lads chant 'H-a-k-o-u-k-e-n!' like a Saturday afternoon on the terraces. Then glancing towards the parents some are clapping, and even dancing- maybe Hadouken are suitable for adults after all.
